2017 gmc acadia freon type

I have a 2009 GMC Acadia. The recycle button would blink when I pushed it for a few months and was acting weird. Would turn off by itself sometimes and I would have to push it again. Then the ac stopped getting cold. We put freon but didn't fix. The compressor wouldn't turn on. Went to get a diagnostic test at an ac place.
