Best infantry unit bannerlord

Legionaries have very high defence and Menavalions are one-hit wonders. But they are not op like some other troops and can be challenged by most other factions infantries. In my experience; Sturgian infantry soak up arrows best with their shield-wall, but that’s pretty much the only one-up they have.

As for actual infantry, against infantry, legionnaires are the best. I've done a lot of testing and imperial legionaries are pretty soundly the best, I believe sturgian axemen were the next best shield unit followed by aserai (don't remember the name of the unit); on top of that there are three imperial factions on the map so there are a lot more towns and villages to recruit from, and no matter where on the map you're fighting imperial territory won't be far away.

Imperial Units are good all-around Infantry and have some of the best armor in the game. Legionairies are meant to set the standard for "Heavy Infantry" in Bannerlord, IMO, both according to "canon" as well as practical effect. I don't think there's a good "versus" comparison on paper.
