The L5p was a very small exhaust side configuration, small up pipes, small exhaust turbo vanes, etc. So I am guessing the ECM was seeing some very high EGT’s and cut power to keep from melting pistons. Like.
L5P fuel filter failure. After being down for weeks I finally took off on another haul yesterday and almost made it 100 miles. Pulled over and shut the truck off. Came back out and all it would do is crank. No start. Tried a few things that didn’t work then dropped the new GM fuel filter for a look.
according to the capacity charts on gm-techlink the oil capacity has been 10 qts. on both 2019/2020 even though the filters changed. The filter on the 2019 L5D is the smaller filter just like the 2020 L5P and it takes 10 qts. as well. I struggle to get more then 15-15.5 mpg in this truck and its driving me nuts. Dash MPG's aren't even remotely close except for the 400+ mile range which is about 1 mpg high.This will help you see the specific code when it happens and have the ability to clear it when needed. The L5P has so many sensors on it that you can monitor absolutely everything without needing any additional probes. The only concerns that anyone really has had with the L5P platform is still the emissions related stuff: DEF heaters, NOx sensors, etc. The truck is strong, smooth, and quiet. You'll love it.
