The reason the manufacturer went to an electric pump was because of fuel injection. Mike 86/00 CJ7 Laredo, 33x9.5 BFG AT's, 'glass nose to tail in '00, 'New' frame,wires and plumbing in '09., All my fuel lines are custom. I took the metal lines off the intake manifold to replace the soft portion between them and the frame since it was dry rotted, and forgot to mark them. So Now I dont know which one on the fuel rail is the feed line... the one with the regulator in front of it.. or the other., The fuel system is very basic, so if you already replaced the FPR and confirmed its working well then the only other mechanical component in the system is the pump. Everything else is either the 2 relays, (fuel pump and auto-shutdown), the pressure/feeder line, the inline fuel filter, and the return line back to the tank., If the pump is sending too much fuel to the carb, the float valve will stop the flow of fuel into the bowl. If that return line isn't there, the fuel has no where to go. This could possibly rupture the diaphragm in the fuel pump...depending on the quality of the pump. If that ruptures, you have a direct fuel leak into the crankcase.
