The Kintner House Inn was built at this site in 1873. It had previously been located a block north of here and that building burned to the ground. Afterward, the KHI was relocated to its current site. Before the fire, the KHI had 34 rooms. The Kintners lived on the first floor and rented out the two top floor rooms. However, the Kintner House actually was built as a hotel. Opened in 1873, it was the Kintner family’s third inn. The Kintner House was the most fashionable hotel in Corydon, which at the time, was Indiana’s capital.
