Chabot Dam sits at the top of San Leandro Creek. Credit: Katie Rodriguez. In 1875, Chabot started construction on what would become the Lake Chabot Dam, originally called the San Leandro Reservoir. While Chabot utilized hydraulic mining techniques to carve out the basin’s main shape, Chinese immigrants did most of the most difficult work.
Lake Chabot Reservoir is a 315 acre lake that was built in 1874 as a primary source of water for the East Bay. Services include boat rentals, the Marina Cafe, picnicking, grassy play area, horseshoe pits, hiking, bicycling, jogging, and running trails, and seasonal lake boat tours.
