In the mid-1970s, Galería de la Raza distributed a Mission Community Mural Map that guided viewers to key murals in San Francisco’s Mission District (fig. 1). The density of murals in the neighborhood was impressive — and sudden. All of the murals listed in the map were created between 1972 and 1974.
