A quick check is to remove the cable from the hub and spin with your fingers while looking for movement on the speedo needle. If it moves, your problem is in the hub. It sounds like your crankcase ventilator is blocked. The alternator is in the crankcase and blow-by from the piston rings will pressurize the case if it can't vent.
